Summary
Scribble: a centralized categorizable list of your favorite links accessable everywhere available to all Artypapers members.
The History of Scribble
Scribble came about after much trial and error searching for a way to quickly store my favorite links in a central location. Being a web developer, often the same pages would need to be checked in multiple browsers and constantly importing links from browser to browser was bothersome. Eventually scribble was created by a local install of apache and php on my windows box--it began as a simple white page with two input boxes, one for a description and one for a URL.
Scribble changed every so often but those changes were mostly limited to cosmetic changes until a co-worker launched a secret server. This new server was where scribble grew into a multi-user application. It had all kinds of bells and whistles, like a to do list and a calendar. Those features proved fairly useless over time, but two concepts were kept, the javascript edit window and the ablity to sort links into groups. the tale regarding the demise of that server is a sad tale and by all accounts scribble appeared to be dead.
The death of the secret server gave rise to Artypapers as the withdrawal from not having a central repository for my links became quite strong--especially after acquiring a second machine at work (a Mac G4) and a new machine at home (an iBook). This latest version of scribble boasts password-protected accounts, preferences, and just recently, link sharing--where you can allow your friends to send you links from their scribble account.
